Leiming Qian

Welcome to Leiming Qian's homepage! Hope that you can find what you are looking for here, and please DO leave a message on my message board before you leave!

Starting from Jan 1st, 2004, I begin working as a software engineer in the Conversational Machines group, IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, NY. Before that I worked in the Speech Technology group in the same location. Please note that this homepage is hosted on my university account and everything on this site reflects only my personal opinion, and not that of my employer, IBM.

Before my employment, I was a senior Ph.D candidate in the DSP group, Electrical and Computer Engineering department, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. My advisor is Professor. Douglas L. Jones. My major research interests are in image/video processing / compression / transmission over wireless/wireline networks, joint source-channel coding, network protocols, time-frequency signal processing etc. I have a Master's degree also from ECE, UIUC, and two Bachelor's degrees (ECE and Mechanical Engineering) from Tsinghua University, P. R. China. Please check out my Papers page for my publications.

I have strong coding abilities, especially in C/C++ programming. I can also program in the following languages: Perl, Basic, Java, FORTRAN, Tcl/TK, X86 Assembly. I am experienced in web homepage development. I have administrator level familiarity with DOS, Windows and UNIX operating platforms. Please check out my Software page for a list of downloadable programs that I've written. You can also visit my Tutorials page for a list of computer related tutorials that I've written.

Valid HTML 4.01! Valid CSS!

This entire website is hand-coded and validated with plain HTML 4.01, there is minimum amount of graphics except for a few headshots of my friends. It uses Cascading Style Sheets and is best viewed with Internet Explorer 5.0+ or Netscape 6.0 (Netscape 4x's CSS Support is very primitive). My high-bandwidth homepage can be found here, but it's seldom updated and going to be obselete soon.
